Moon Beam Rider and other works

Front Range Classical Ballet Academy will be presenting the world premiere of Moon Beam Rider at the Fort Collins Lincoln Center on May 26 & 27, 2018. This original ballet is based upon a beloved bedtime story told by the choreographer’s father decades ago. In it, a sick bed-ridden child tosses and turns in her fever, overcome by nightmares. Her mother hears her child’s restlessness and comes to calm and care for her. As the young girl settles into a more soothing sleep, the moon shines into her window. In her dream, the moonbeam becomes a beautiful and powerful white horse upon whom she rides into the sky to greet the stars and moon.  Looking down upon Earth, the girl and MoonBeam see troubles below.  They descend to Earth and, as nearly every child does in his/her imagination, together MoonBeam and the girl solve the problems of the world. Finally morning comes and the girl awakens back in her room…  Dancers from youth to wisdom, from near beginners to full-fledged professionals, hailing from Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Greeley, and Golden will be a part of this imaginative production.

Other shorter works the audience will be treated to during this performance include both classical and contemporary ballets. “Bach Minuets” is a simple tribute to the loveliness of the music and the delight of dance. “The Space Between” explores that place between life and death – when one knows the end is near, or knows that the death of a dearly beloved looms close… that connection, that loss, that painful anticipation of the togetherness ending…  “Goddess Counsel” tells the story of a little girl who is being guided into her life by the spirits of many goddesses, each of whom shares her particular wisdom and characteristics with the young girl to help her on her journey.
