In celebration of Black History Month, Michael Anthony Tatmon and In Living Colored Productions are bringing the story of the first African American Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall, to life on the Lincoln Center Stage! Michael’s tour de force performance of Thurgood, by George Stevens, debuted on the Bas Bleu Theatre stage in 2019. Since then he has performed for schools and community centers. Now he wants to take this phenomenal production to a new level and a wider audience. This important and timely play immerses the audience in the African American experience from the Pullman car waiters to the children fighting for the right to attend schools that were closed to them to the struggles of Black soldiers in a segregated military to the naming of the first African American Supreme Court justice. It highlights the struggles, achievements, and contributions of African Americans with an evocative, compassionate performance. Thurgood is moving but never heavy because of the life-affirming soul of the subject, who knew how to laugh at himself and the world and use his positive energy to bring lasting change.
