In partnership with the show artists and producers, we have made the difficult decision to postpone or cancel the Urban Bush Women performance scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2020 due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19. Beginning August 26, all ticket purchasers will automatically receive a full refund for their order, credited back to the original payment method. This process may take up to three weeks to complete. We are actively working to secure alternate future dates for many of these performances. We will likely announce any rescheduled dates in mid-May of 2021.
Urban Bush Women burst onto the dance scene in 1984, with bold, demanding and exciting works that brought under-told stories to life through the art and vision of its award-winning Founder, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. The Company weaves contemporary dance, music, and text with the history, culture, and spiritual traditions of the African Diaspora under the organizational artistic direction of Zollar and Co-Artistic Directors of the Company, Chanon Judson and Samantha Speis.
UBW performs regularly in New York City and tours nationally and internationally. The Company has been commissioned by presenters nationwide, and includes among its honors a New York Dance and Performance Award (“Bessie”); the Capezio Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance; a Black Theater Alliance Award; and two Doris Duke Awards for New Work from the American Dance Festival.
"And the Urban Bush Women are committed, triple-threat performers who dance, sing and act with a sometimes searing sense of truthfulness." —The New York Times
